My Photo Journey

Hey there, my name is Brianna Kilgore and I really enjoy taking photos of people and moments - for short.

I started my photography journey as the subject in front of the lens first. In 2016, I started a blog called Justbriyourself.com where I shared my outfits, vulnerable life lessons and experiences, and eventually went on to partner with brands and receive products.

In order to blog, you had to have photos. However, I didn’t start with the photos that were crisp, poised, and had perfect color composition. I started off by having my brother take my photos on my iPhone. I started with what I had! The goal was always to capture a photo that drew attention and emotion. I wanted to be relatable.

Eventually, I wanted those more crisp photos that brought better attention to detail of what I wore or what product I was reviewing. So, I started working with local photographers in Grand Rapids. As much as I loved being in front of the camera, I kept feeling this inclination to try being behind it.

I took a nice romantic walk down the camera isle at Best Buy with the intention of buying my own, and shifting into videos instead of blog posts. I quickly learned how much I loved taking photos of subjects that weren’t just myself. My brother and I switched roles with him running a political campaign and needing headshots and content that would give a warm impression and keep his audience engaged.

On a fall day in 2019, we headed downtown and found a spot for the perfect classic headshot. It was a short alley way between two buildings with great light, that allowed for a flattering silhouette. That moment shifted everything for us both.

I’ve been taking photos ever since! With that being said, I am self taught and grateful to be growing with the amazing people who trust me to capture them in their best light. It’s more than a photo.

Other details about me: I’m 28. I was born in Chicago. My favorite color has been pink since 1st grade. I’m a Scorpio. I use a Canon camera. And I absolutely love putting looks together in my free time and will gladly help you put your best look together before a shoot!

See you soon?
